What Can Go in a Dumpster? Almost Everything

Waste Management and Disposal Solutions

Furniture, junk, remodel debris, yard waste, and more. Here's the short list of exceptions.

Renting a dumpster is the easiest way to clear out a garage, gut a kitchen, or keep a job site clean. Good news: almost anything can go in a Wasatch Waste dumpster. The only exceptions are a handful of hazardous items the landfill itself won't accept, and we list them below. Planning a bigger project? Take a look at our roll-off dumpster rentals.

Dumpster Questions We Get All the Time

What can go in a Wasatch Waste dumpster?

Almost anything. Furniture, mattresses, carpet, boxes, household junk, construction and remodel debris, roofing, concrete and dirt, and yard waste all go in. If you're not sure about something, call and ask.

Is there anything the landfill won't take?

Yes, a short list of hazardous items: liquid paint, motor oil, gasoline, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, propane tanks, and car batteries. Fridges, freezers, and AC units need their refrigerant removed by a certified tech first. Those rules come from the landfill and environmental law, not from us.

Can I throw out old paint?

Empty or fully dried-out cans are fine. Liquid paint, especially oil-based paint and stains, counts as hazardous. Let leftover latex paint dry out completely first, or take it to a household hazardous waste collection day.

Can tires and electronics go in?

Yes. Just mention them when you book so we can plan the load.

Can I put concrete, dirt, or rock in a dumpster?

Yes, but heavy materials hit the weight limit fast, even when the dumpster looks half empty. Tell us up front if you're hauling concrete, dirt, brick, or rock so we send the right container.

Where can I take hazardous items?

The Utah County Health Department holds household hazardous waste collection days for things like paint, chemicals, and batteries. Check their website for upcoming dates and locations. Many auto parts stores also take used motor oil and car batteries.
